I really want to see that in person. And maybe taste it. Yeah, it’s crazy, but so crazy it just might work???

The BBC filmed Phillip Pullman’s "Ruby in the Smoke", starring Billie Piper (Doctor Who), and aired it recently. Here’s the wikipedia entry on the series of books if you are not familar with them. I haven’t seen it yet so can’t say if it’s any good or not*, but I enjoyed the books so I’m looking forward to watching it. The books are sort of like Charles Dickens meets Nancy Drew and Sherlock Holmes with a pinch of Alan Moore’s "The League of Extraordinary Gentelmen". Not incredible like Pullman’s "His Dark Materials" trilogy but still pretty entertaining.
I like that British TV does some big Christmas time specials during the actual holiday week, with new movies and stand-alone special episodes of tv shows outside of their normal seasons and time, instead of just replaying movies and re-runs like they do here in the states. They act like we don’t really watch tv during the holidays. I guess I don’t need a CSI-Miami Xmas special, but imagine a HBO Soprano’s holiday special? Or Veronica Mars? Or any of your favorite shows?
*watched "Ruby", and it was excellent.

Spent Thurs. at Mitsuwa’s in Arlington Heights. The ramen was a touch oily but excellent. Not the best I’ve had but pretty damn good and way better than the one at Macy’s in the loop. The baked goods were all excellent and I had one of the best pre-packaged sandwiches. Breaded deep fried pork cutlet on white bread (Japanese bakeries do the best white bread), no crust. My favorite sandwich so far in the Chicagoland area.

It’s really not a visit to Rochester without a garbage plate. It’s become an almost yearly thing for me. You can see more of this type of biz, and all the different variations, at the "Garbage Plates We Have Known" Flickr Photo group. Or not, depending on your individual food isssues. It’s interesting how it’s similar to a Hawaii-style plate lunch without the rice.

Haha, Nick Tahou Hots, the daddy of the garbage plate, has a myspace account.

The cat furball (four years of fur collected during brushings from the cat below, formed into a ball, rubberband style) on apartment therapy is pretty impressive:

This year I’ve decided to focus on just one New Year’s resolution,
thereby simplifying my delusion that I will actuallly do the one thing,
and that doing the one thing will change my life for the better. And
when I don’t do it, well, it’s just one thing. Not like, say, the 10
things I usually have on the list.
New Year’s resolution for 2007:
1. 3650 push-ups by 2008.
That’s like 10 a day. Or twenty every other day? And so on. I’ll maybe put up a
chart on the blog to keep count. If I can do all of them in a month,
I’ll feel like I won’t have to worry about getting enough excercise for
the rest of the year!
