How to eat Korean BBQ (since someone asked me recently)

December 30, 2007 · No Comments

I like these little Chicago Tribune videos. Also Monica Eng is always a reliable read for the ethnic Chicago food reviews. Watch how the people eating shove the entire lettuce leaf wrapped piece of beef into their mouths. I love that they didn’t act like they usually nibble on it for the camera. Embarrassing yet authentic!

Babylon Fields

December 25, 2007 · 1 Comment

Babylon Fields, a pilot not picked up by CBS in 2007, about zombies coming back to live their lives (no brain eating, just working out their family issues) and trying to fit in with the non-rotting, is on google video for your watching pleasure:

“The show explores the emotional and societal ramification of loved ones coming back from the dead. You know, like in “Pet Sematary.” But by the end of the episode, the zombie thriller is crossed with a crime procedural. So small-town police detective Stevenson is given a murder to solve while zombies wander the streets. It’s “ZSI.””

I was walking down Western tonight and saw that people had put together a memorial to the Pigeon Man who died recently. Along with a framed photo of Joseph Zeman aka the Pigeon Man, and flowers and a lit candle, there were bread crusts scattered on the sidewalk.

Juno - sparking the internecine culture war

December 19, 2007 · 2 Comments

Forget Clinton vs. Obama; Which side do you stand on when it comes to the movie Juno? Sweet, little perfect film? Or overly sweet and wanna-be quirky junk? From what I’ve been reading online, it’s one or the other and we must all take sides and be ready to shed blood defending our positions. I have not seen it, but if they use Bright Eyes “First Day Of My Life” in the soundtrack I might cry.

FAIL!

Ugh. I hate most watches designed by designers, even the Marc Newson one featured on buzzfeed. It’s usually a lot of numbers that are hard to read or no numbers at all. I really want a watch that will tell me what time it is quickly, so I’d like numbers. But I’m not flying a plane so I don’t need any of that crono biz. Most of the watch designs are about as useful as the printed one in the photo above. But not as nice looking.

I still like this the best. Beautiful. And so cheap.
